How to calculate Weekly Total Hours

The total work time done in a week is called Weekly Total Hours. By adding up the work time done each day, you can calculate how many hours you have worked weekly, whether you have taken leave or not. When calculating all these Weekly Total Hours, you need to add hours and minutes separately. This is the easiest way.

1. Keep a record of the start and end times of each day.
2. Write down your break minutes each day.
3. Calculate the net minutes of the day, using Formula (End − Start) – Break.
4. Add the all hours or minutes of seven days.
5. Total hours should be calculated (if it is in minutes, it will be converted to hours)

Example,
Weekly Timecard

  4. Thursday : 8h:30 min
  5. Friday: 8h:00 min
  6. Saturday : 7h:00 min
  7. Sunday : holiday

Weekly Total : 49h:00 min and (OT: 1h)

  7. OT Pay (1.5×):- 4 × 200 × 1.5 = $ 1,200
Total Gross Pay: $ 10,800

What is Time Rounding and when is it used?

Time rounding is the process of converting the exact minutes worked by an employee to the nearest value within a certain time interval, which is used to simplify payroll and billing.

intervals

  • 5 min : Most common. 37 min = 35 min
  • 6 min : Standard in freelance billing. (1 hr = 10 units)
  • 15 min : Most common in factory and shift based work.

How does it work?

When dividing the actual minutes by the interval, round to the nearest integer, and multiply by the interval again.
Formula :- Rounded = round(actual min ÷ interval) × interval

Example,

 37 min ÷ 5 = 7.4 → round → 7 × 5 = 35 min

When to use it, when not to use it?

In the work hours calculator, selecting “None” will count exact minutes, which is the most accurate. Use the Rounding Only option only if your company has a timesheet policy that requires it.
